About
This three day, two night retreat provides a supportive, creative environment to test ideas, consider new collaborations and explore cross artform possibilities.
This is an opportunity for writers, choreographers, dancers, directors, actors, theatre makers and designers to come together and explore new project ideas. Applications are welcome from:
- People at the start of their artistic practice
- Senior artists with significant experience
- Mid-career artists
- Collaborative teams (up to 2 members) working together on a single concept
A range of highly skilled mentors from different arts practices across Australia are provided to inform project development. Recent residencies have included; Bradley Chatfield, Margi Brown-Ash, Nathan Stoneham, Chelsea McGuffin and Natano Fa’anana.
The 2025 residency is open to artists from geographical areas including and surrounding both Townsville and Cairns. This will provide an opportunity to engage with other Northern Queensland artists outside your immediate geographical area. Cairns and region participants will be asked to meet at a central location in Cairns and additional travel support will be provided for Townsville area artists to travel between Townsville and Cairns.

The application is simple and asks for 150 words about your idea – it will take about 20 mins to complete.
Expressions of interest will be reviewed by a curatorial panel who will take into consideration the calibre of the artist, the quality of the idea and a range of other balancing issues including artform, geography and experience to ensure the right mix of people for a vibrant weekend.
Note: While the residency is heavily subsidised each successful applicant will be required to pay a deposit of $400 to secure their spot of which $300 is fully refundable after attendance at the residency and completion of the debrief survey.
